This series details the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago's brief presence in Chandler, Colorado. Four Sisters ran a vaction school in the small coal town during the summer of 1940, which served children in Chandler, along with Williamsburg, Colorado, and Coal Creek, Colorado. Also included is an Archives Newsletter written following a 1991 archive trip Sr. Vivian Ivantic, OSB, and Sr. Eleanore Hillenbrand, OSB, took to Colorado.

Scope and Contents

This sub-series is comprised of a couple papers listing the Sisters who ran summer schools of religion in Coal Creek, Colorado, along with the years they worked. The 28 students who attended the 1933 vacation school taught by Sr. Leona Schmitt, OSB, appear in two photographs. Also included is "The Gleanor," an article from an unnamed publication on the coal mines surrounding CaƱon City, Colorado, which includes a description of Coal Creek prior to a 1907 fire that wrecked the town.
