Brief histories
This collection contains promotional material and guidelines for Benedictine oblate programs, the membership lists and directories of St. Scholastica Monastery oblates, as well as some correspondence of oblate directors, and liturgical worship aids. One worship aid is related to efforts to canonize Benedictine oblate Dorothy Day. This collection will continue to grow as new content is created and donated.
Eagle, Colo., 1940 - 1989
This series contains a couple photographs of Sr. Constance Matern, OSB, and Sr. Anthony Hrusovsky, OSB, a priest, and their vacation school group outside St. Mary Church in Eagle, Colorado. Also included are some pictures taken during a 1989 archive trip Sr. Vivian Ivantic, OSB, and Sr. Eleanore Hillenbrand, OSB, took to Colorado. The list of Sisters who taught at the summer schools of religion in Eagle may be incomplete, as the second page of the list is missing.
Las Animas, Colo., 1937 - 1967
This sub-series contains a long list of Sisters who taught vacation schools in Las Animas, Colorado, for over 30 years. Several documents relate to St. Mary Church, including a postcard of the exterior, a print of the interior, a pamphlet about the history of the parish, and a news article from the Southern Colorado Register that mentions the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago. A postcard from Leadville, Colorado, is also included, but the reason is unclear.
Minturn, Colo., 1952 - 2007
This sub-series contains many photos and several news clippings relating to vacation schools the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago taught in Minturn, Colorado, from the late 1930s to late 1970s. Most material was produced during the 1950s.
Oblate newsletters, 1978-1989, December 2007
Sister Benita Coffey, OSB letters to the Oblates. In later years, when she produced the newsletter on the computer, Sister Benita did not save the files but efficiently used the most recent newsletter as a template for the next. No Oblates were found to have copies of those newsletters.
