Alamosa, Colo., 1937 - 1991
This sub-series is primarily comprised of lists of Sisters who taught vacation schools in Alamosa, Colorado. The Benedictine Sisters of Chicago had a large presence in the town, especially earlier in the 20th century. A pamphlet about the history of the Sacred Heart Church, a copy of some pages from "Our Community," and an Archives Newsletter are also included.
Crested Butte, Colo., 1937 - 1992
Delta, Colo.
This slim sub-series contains nothing more than a sheet of paper listing Sisters who taught at vacation schools in Delta, Colorado, where the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago were stationed from 1950 until 1974. In addition to summer schools of religion, some Sisters also worked at St. Michael School.
Florence, Colo., 1991
Despite the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago's 40-year presence in Florence, Colorado, this sub-series is relatively slim. Beyond a two-page list of Sisters who taught vacation schools in the town, the only other material included are two images of a statue of St. Benedict taken outside St. Benedict Church during a 1991 archive trip to Colorado.
Manzenola, Colo.
This sub-series contains a single piece of paper listing two summer schools of religion taught in Manzanola, Colorado, and Progresso, Colorado. The first took place in 1938 with 203 pupils, although it is unknown which Sister or Sisters were stationed there at the time. The other was run by Sr. Mary Cornella, OSB, and Sr. Anne Spehar, OSB, at some point in the 1940s.
Minturn, Colo., 1952 - 2007
This sub-series contains many photos and several news clippings relating to vacation schools the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago taught in Minturn, Colorado, from the late 1930s to late 1970s. Most material was produced during the 1950s.
Progresso, Colo.
Very little is known about the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago's time in Progresso, Colorado. All this sub-series contains is a sheet of paper noting that there was a vacation school in the town, and a brief archive note listing Sr. Mary Cornella, OSB, and Sr. Anne Spehar, OSB, as the only Sisters who taught in the town.
Rocky Ford, Colo., 1937 - 1942
This sub-series contains an archives note listing the Sisters who taught vacation schools in Rocky Ford, Colorado, along with a couple news clippings of events relating to the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago's presence in the town. Also included is a photograph of several pupils from one summer, although the year is unknown, and it appears they do not comprise the whole class, as there are more children cut off on the right left side of the frame.
