Collection of Benedictine Founders booklets
Scope and Contents
The booklets tell the life of the Benedictine saints and founders or novenas (9 consecutive days of prayer for a special intention) and other devotions. These booklets were used to teach and to enhance the prayer of Sisters, their students, and others connected with the community. The 2002 memorial booklet of the sesquicentennial of Benedictine women in North America contains poems by Sister Judith Elms, OSB (1931-2015), Sister Suzanne Zuercher (1931-2014), and Sister Benita Coffey (1931-). In 1980, the Benedictine world marked the 1500th anniversayry of the birth of Saint Benedict and Saint Scholastica. Mateials from the sesquimillenium celebration include a resource packet developed by Sister Benita Coffey, OSB and Oblate Nancy Fita-William, among others, worship aids from Benedictine Sisters of Chicago celebrations, materials from other monasteries and news reports throughout the United States and abroad. There is a booklet of translated (by Philip Hurley, OSB) and transcribed letters of Boniface Wimmer, OSB to Ludwig I of Bavaria that discuss the mission in Chicago and the American Civil War.
