Scope and Contents
The holy cards represent Benedictine Saints as well as other saints. Some holy cards represent exerpts from the Rule of Saint Benedict or other Catholic themes. They often have artwork on one side and a prayer on the back, accomodating different prayer styles. This series contains devotional objects used by Sister Benigna Bacherle, OSB during her life as a Benedictine Sister. It includes a watercolor painting of the Madonna and Child in an Alpine household setting; this painting was the work of Karl Schmid, a monastery employee and co-worker of Sister Benigna, who also carved a wooden frame for a photograph of Pope John Paul II as gifts for her.
