Biographical / Historical

Over two days, Sister Vivian Ivantic, OSB and Sister Eleanore Hillenbrand, OSB, driven by Sister Jeanne Hegarty, OSB explored Louisville, Lafayette, Erie, Boulder,Eagle, Minturn, and Red Cliff where they researched the Sisters' life and work in these towns.

They also visited the Benedictine Sisters at St. Walburg Monastery, who had established a community in the Boulder area in 1935. In 1997, the St. Walburg community would move to Virginia Dale, Colorado and in 1989 receive the status of Abbey. Like the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago, their community of origin is Abtei St. Walburg in Eichstätt, Bavaria.

In addition to her findings about our Sisters' presence in these towns, Sister Vivian Ivantic, OSB solicited donations from Sisters and acquired material to provide context about the current status and the history of the places.

Photographs with a numbered label or a number written in ink on the front pertain to the 1961 centennial exhibit created by Sister Ignatia O'Connor, OSB. The catalog of that exhibit oftne provides a caption for the image.

Additional photographs were donated by Sisters who had visited or served in these towns. They may have metadata written on the back.
